I've not always loved running. At one point, it was no more than me 'pounding the pavement' because I knew running was good for me (and I wasn't a gym person). After years of injuries and following a monotonous run schedule, I found a solution.
One of the biggest mistakes people make with their run training is assuming they only need to train cardio. This may be try in the beginning, but from personal experience and extensive research, I've found training cardio AND strength is what will take your running to the next level.
WHY STRENGTH TRAINING?
Strength training will:
a) improve speed, strength and power, and
b) reduce injuries by building muscular strength, stability and elasticity
to strengthen parts of the body that are prone to injury.
A strong body will:
improve your overall running form
making you a more efficient runner
meaning you and go faster and for longer while maintaining great form and reducing the risk of injury.
